About Jujitsu
Bushido Jujitsu was founded on the principals of leverage, distance and technical precision. It is our belief that in order to be truly effective, a martial artist must be well versed in all aspects of self defense.
The term Bushido is more than a word.
Bushido refers to a way of life, a code by which warriors live by. The word
Bushido is derived from the Japanese words “bushi” which means “warrior” and
“do” which refers to “way”. Therefore, in its simplest form, Bushido means”
“the way of the warrior”.
Bushido is a
mindset shared by every warrior who trains for war, but prays for peace.
Warriors of the past, such as the Samurai of Japan and the Medieval Knights of
Europe are examples of those who followed the code of Bushido.
Modern day
warriors that would fit into this class include those who fight and protect
others for a living such as military, law-enforcement and security personnel.
The Japanese word “Ju” means gentle, soft or flexible. The word “Jitsu” refers to technique or art. Therefore, the direct translation to English would be “Gentle Art”. This is ironic considering the brutal techniques contained in the many styles of Jujitsu.
Jujitsu is
considered by many historians to be the “mother” of all modern martial arts.
Jujitsu includes striking, throwing, grappling, submissions, joint locks,
choking, biting, eye gouging, pressure points and weapon defense to name a few.
The main principle or theory behind Jujitsu is for a weaker force “Ju” to overcome a stronger force through the proper application of superior technique “jitsu”.
A person skilled in Jujitsu utilizes skill, balance, leverage, timing, intelligence and technique to overcome pure strength, aggression and violence. Jujitsu is every bit as much a mental chess match as it is a physical display of skill. Knowing what technique to use and when to use it is only mastered after years of quality training.
For generations Jujitsu has proven itself as a worthy martial art, from the battlefields of the Samurai class to the modern day gladiators of the octagon. Jujitsu continues to be one of the most effective and well -rounded fighting arts in the world.
A true warrior places him or herself in harms way to defend, protect or save others even if they are strangers and even at the cost of the warrior’s own life. This is the moral code of Bushido, which is followed only by the chosen few with honor, pride and self-sacrifice for the pursuit of justice.
